Civil Infraction Citation
In 2021 the Nevada Legislature passed Assembly Bill 116. Per AB116, certain traffic violations in Nevada became civil infractions instead of misdemeanors. A civil infraction is NOT a criminal offense. The penalty for a civil infraction is no more than $500.00 per violation unless otherwise authorized by a specific statute.
Effective January 1, 2023, any person who receives a citation for a civil infraction violation must respond to the citation. The deadline to respond is within ninety (90) days after the citation is issued. Your response can be to pay the balance due to the Pahrump Justice Court or to contest the civil infraction citation.
Failure to respond to the civil infraction citation within ninety (90) days, or failure to complete payment, will result in your case being referred to collections, the suspension of your driver’s license, and the appropriate demerit points will be referred to the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles.
